Solar elastosis

Solar elastosis is a phenomenon that occurs in the skin when exposed to excessive sunlight. The name "elastosis" comes from "elastin" - one of the key structural proteins of the skin, which is responsible for its elasticity. As a result of prolonged sun exposure, elastin degrades, leading to a loss of skin firmness and the appearance of wrinkles.

Solar elastosis is one of the most important effects of sun-induced skin aging (known as photoaging). As the skin ages under UV radiation, its ability to produce new elastin decreases while existing elastin is destroyed. The skin then becomes less elastic, wrinkles appear, and skin texture deteriorates.

Unfortunately, solar elastosis is not a reversible process. That's why prevention is so important, involving the use of creams with UV filters, avoiding excessive sun exposure, as well as regular skin care aimed at protection and regeneration.

Remember that UV rays are present all year round, not just on summer sunny days. Therefore, protecting the skin from UV radiation should be an integral part of our daily skin care routine, regardless of the season.
