Acupressure

An alternative form of treatment, originating in China, consisting in pressing, stroking, touching or tapping the appropriate acupuncture points all over the body.

The first mentions of acupressure come from 7,000 years ago. Even then, it was a well-known and recognized method of treatment in China. Although there is no proven scientific evidence for the effectiveness of acupressure, it is still a well-known and popular treatment method. It involves pressing, stroking, gently touching or tapping nerve endings located all over the body.

In Chinese culture, the action of acupressure was justified by the flow of Yin and Yang energy in the human body, and any disturbances in this process lead to the formation of disease processes. Pressing the appropriate points of nerve endings unblocks the flow of this energy.

We can distinguish two methods of acupressure:

  • stimulating method - pressing acupuncture points is fast and rhythmic

  • inhibitory method - compressions are performed with circular, gradually strengthening movements

Acupressure techniques are also used during many different types of massages. An example of such a massage is the Japanese Kobido facial massage.
