Scars

They arise as a result of various injuries and are often a reminder of an operation. A scar is formed on the skin when the defect extends to the dermis and further layers of the skin. The aim of scar treatment is to heal it, obtain good function and aesthetic appearance. Scar therapy depends both on the type of scar and the type of wound that caused it. Its main goals are to reduce the size of the scar or completely reduce it, as well as to eliminate discomforts associated with it, such as pain, itching, swelling, and stiffness. Its shape depends on factors such as:

- the age of the patient. In older people, wounds take longer to heal, hypertrophic scars form less frequently, the regenerative process weakens with age,

- complications in wound healing. As a result of complications (infection, hematoma, wound dehiscence), hypertrophic scars often develop,

- general condition of the patient. Nutrition, hypoxia, steroid therapy, diabetes, state after irradiation are important in the healing process,

- type of scar.
