The essence of brittle nails
Brittle nails are nothing more than a broken horny plate that covers the fingers and toes. Keratin plays an important role in the composition of nails. In order for the nail to grow properly and not break, we should not lead to its deficiency (if this happens, we can supplement it using preparations with hydrolysed keratin). What's more, the appearance of the nail plate proves whether our body is functioning properly.
The causes of brittle nails
The causes of brittle nails can also include an inadequate diet - the nail plate breaks due to a deficiency of, among others: silicon, zinc, potassium, calcium, iron, vitamin B, vitamin F and magnesium. Common causes of nail breakage also include poor hand care (or lack of it), as well as long soaking of hands in water, exposure to too low or too high temperature, moisture and inappropriate washing off the nail varnish (use of acetone).
Solutions for brittle nails
In combating the problem of brittle nails, the most important is a varied, wholesome diet that provides the body with all the necessary vitamins and minerals, as well as daily care for nails and hands. Brittle nails can be caused by a protein deficiency in the diet. It is worth ensuring that the daily menu includes products that are a rich source of this nutrient. These include mainly milk and dairy products (e.g. kefir, natural yoghurts, cottage cheese), eggs and lean poultry meat. The condition of the nails is greatly influenced by the calcium that strengthens the nail plate and the silicon responsible for the elasticity and optimal hydration of the nails. The source of silicon is wholegrain cereal products (e.g. wholemeal bread, wheat bran), fruit peel, royal jelly, garlic. Horsetail, nettle and knotweed provide the most silicon. Foods rich in vitamin should appear in the diet of people with brittle nails:
