Nasolabial folds

Nasolabial folds, otherwise known as "marionette lines," are lines or furrows that extend from the base of the nose to the corners of the mouth. They are a natural part of skin aging and usually become more prominent with age. They are formed as a result of a loss of skin elasticity due to a decrease in collagen and elastin production, as well as loss of fatty tissue in the area.

Nasolabial folds can appear at a young age, but usually become more prominent after age 40. Many factors can accelerate their appearance, including sun exposure, smoking, stress or poor diet.

Although nasolabial folds are a natural part of aging, there are many ways to minimize them and delay their appearance. Proper skin moisturization, sun protection, a healthy diet, regular exercise and avoiding stress can help delay their appearance.
